In the afternoon of June 30th, Dr. Xiong Yu, from Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, OH), America, invited by our School of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environment, made an academic lecture named as The Monitoring and Simulation Technology of Multi-scale Bridge Scour in the university. All the teachers and some postgraduates from the school listened to the academic lecture, which was host by Prof. Xiao Benlin, the dean of the School of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environment.

Dr. Yu's lecture centered on the problem that bridges were damaged or destroyed by flood scouring, and introduced the calculating model and researches on the sensor development. According to Dr. Yu, the influence that rushing waters had on soil erosion could be monitored by the biologic sensor for rushing waters, which was invented based on the principles of bionics. Then Dr. Yu had an in-depth discussion with teachers and students around the relevant problems. The atmosphere was very lively and received the expected effect of the lecture.

In the end, Dr. Xiong Yu shared the young teachers and postgraduates with his researching and exploring experience in the interdisciplines. He also introduced a series of innovative theories and advanced technologies, thus greatly broadening teachers and students' horizons. His rigorous academic attitude and scientific spirit of being continuously seeking innovation left a deep impression on all the attendant teachers and students.
