As a world-renowned expert in geotechnical engineering from the University of Western Ontario (Canada), Professor M.Hesham EL Naggar, a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, was invited to our university for a lecture titled “Nonlinear Analysis on Pile’s Peculiarity under Dynamic Circulative Loading” which attracted more than 200 teachers and students from the School of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environment.

Professor Naggar first introduced the significance of the study of soil dynamics and the adverse effects to engineering caused by soil damage, and then explained the development of soil dynamic testing from two aspects; field testing and indoor testing.

He elaborated how the dynamic features of soil influences “shallow foundation” design, and demonstrated the relationship between dynamic stiffness and damping.  During the discussion with teachers and students, Professor Naggar also held a symposium with Professor Liu Defu and full-time teachers of the School of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environment.

Professor Naggar has been long engaged in the study of the interaction between static and dynamic soil and structures, ocean structure's features for long-term service, soil dynamics, seismic engineering and pile foundations. He is a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, deputy director of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Western Ontario, one of the Geotechnical Engineering Research Center academic leaders, and a member  of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He has published more than 400 papers in SCI / EI, and he has won a number of international awards and honors.
